Hello!
My name is Ana and I'm a neuroscientist and postdoctoral researcher at the Grubb Lab at the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology - King's College London. I am currently investigating neurotransmitter release strategies in dopaminergic neurons in the mouse olfactory bulb using anatomical and electrophysiological approaches. In 2024, I will start a project tackling axodendritic interactions during development using mitral cells as a model.

Before this, I was a PhD student at the lab of Drs Mireille Montcouquiol and Nathalie Sans at the Neurocentre Magendie, in Bordeaux. I characterised a new role for Planar Cell Polarity (PCP) proteins in the establishment of neuronal polarity and the development and function of the axon initial segment (AIS) using immunofluorescence, super-resolution microscopy and biochemistry.

I care deeply about research being inclusive and accessible to everyone. Science is not based on a single 'genius', but rather the combination of ideas and perspectives from multiple, diverse people. You can read about my open science ethos here.

Outside the lab, I enjoy reading a good book, having all sorts of coffee, swimming, trying out every single restaurant (and breakfast/brunch place) in London, and watching movies at the cinema with a bucket of popcorn. Because of all the times I moved, I'm lucky to speak 5 languages (Galician, Catalan, Spanish, French and English), all of them fighting daily for a spot in my brain.
